reach your dreams

When it comes to education, age shouldn’t matter. My mother is a testament to this. She had her masters when I was already in high school with my other siblings in elementary. Nowadays, those who had been planning to obtain a second degree or a master’s degree would be happy to know that they can do so, with the same high standards, from an online university.

A busy schedule is the most common excuse for not pushing through with your plans of enrolling. But at Western Governors University, their online degree programs are specifically designed for busy people. Now you can achieve your dream, working on it in your most convenient time.

Oops, no. BG isn’t attending an aerobics class. This photo was taken during the “Reading Makes You A Star” program for their book fair in school.

I found the outfit so cute on her. I hope she can use it again for the next fun run. Or maybe, since I’m considering taking diet pills, I might just enroll us in a mommy and daughter aerobics class instead.

Anyway, after that event, it is semestral break for the little girl. Well, for me too as I do not need to wake up early. ;)

Family Fitness Fun Run

I have been busy looking more information about my research, treatments for Mesothelioma, that I forgot that I should be concerned with the family health too.

“Prevention is better than cure.”

This morning, BG’s school held their first Family Fitness Fun Run of the year. My daughter was too sleepy as the registration was at 7am. She was so used to getting up at 9am.

I actually had more fun during the 30-minute warm up session where a fitness instructor led the parents and kids. We stretched and danced in preparation for the run.

Daddy took this that’s why he wasn’t in the picture. I have no pictures of us while three of us were running together. I sure hope the teachers post the photos they took during the run.

our school girl

The other day when I came to the school to fetch BG, I heard a boy crying. When the teachers opened the door of the juniors’ room, I heard her assured the mother that her son has just started crying again. To me, it was like the teacher wanted to assure the mom that her kid did something worthwhile instead of just crying.

Honestly, I expected a lot of crying on the first month of the school year. For some kids, it is their first time to be away from their family and to be left to a set of strangers. Totally understandable.

I am glad that we enrolled BG to the summer play group. When she came out, her teacher told me, “..and here’s BG, wala lang. Sanay na sya, mommy.” :D

class muse

This morning, the parents were oriented at my daughter’s school. They explained to us their method of teaching, progressive, that each child is unique. We were also told of the guidelines such as where to fetch the children, exit signs, parking spaces, and the like. After listening to the teachers, I realized we made the right decision enrolling BG there.

I was also told that BG’s class has 8 kids. Seven of which are boys!!! My daughter is automatically the class muse! I was shocked because back in her Kindermusik class, they were all girls in the class, so I thought that her generation is composed mostly of girls. Obviously, I was wrong. :P

As much as I’d love to think of other feminizing activity for my daughter, I can’t. I am still anxious about the school year opening and the work schedule change that I have. I feel so unprepared for BG’s school, and I am restless. My mind is racing with questions like “Is she ready for a Monday to Friday commitment?”, “Is she equipped enough?”, “Did we forget to buy something that she needs?” or “AM I READY TO BE A MOM TO A SCHOOL KID?”

PLUS, the work schedule change makes me feel very… uneasy, very much like a new hire. Actually, no, because I was always excited whenever I was the new hire. I am wondering if both my body and mind are ready to start the day early to care for my daughter’s needs (till she comes home from school), and work late in the office and come home late. I feel so tired just thinking about it.

Add to that is the upcoming birthday of the little girl. STRESSSSSSSSSSS….

TGIF!

Finally, it was my last day in driving school! Whew! Still, I’m not confident with my driving skills. If not for possible emergencies, I really wouldn’t enroll. I am so comfortable sitting on either the passenger or back seat. Oh, change, tsk, tsk. Hahaha.

Today is also the last day of summer playschool. BG and her playmates had a little “party”. Our little girl had so much fun in her playschool. She has improved especially in mingling with other kids. That, actually, will be put into test tomorrow.

Yes, tomorrow is another meet-up with the MBAP families at the Tagaytay Highlands. Planned activities include a visit to the petting zoo, daddies’ basketball game, afternoon swimming and a whole lot more. I’m definitely taking pictures.

I’m posting photos as soon as we get back. ;)
Happy weekend!

she’s ready :)

Hubby and I have reasons for enrolling BG to her summer playgroup. First, we wanted her to learn how to mingle with other kids. Second, we wanted her to be ready for school year 2009-2010. Looks like the goals were met. :)

Here’s a note I received today.
~

Dear Mommy and Daddy,

Here are some stories about your daughter, BG.

1. BG had separation difficulties during the first week of playgroup.
2. She would cry throughout the class and would not join the others during meeting, circle or even snack time.
3. But around the second week, it was easier for mommy to leave BG inside the classroom, despite her crying.
4. She would cling on to teacher most of the time, especially during transitions.
5. Slowly, she has been able to adapt to the routines. Putting her bag in the cubby hole and getting her name card to place on the chart.
6. She has also began to play with other children during free-play time.
7. She is able to sit on the mat with other children during meeting time, where we talk about the topic for that day.
8. BG is also able to work on the activities such as painting and/or coloring.
9. During snack time, she joins the rest of the children have their snacks and even excited to announce of her “hotdog” baon.
10. During outdoor play, BG is all smiles. She especially loves going down the slide.
11. It’s been wonderful seeing BG ease up towards school. :)

BG’s first teacher is mommy

BG continues to learn more of her ABC’s adding to the letters that she knows that I listed here. There’s just one thing that I noticed. Since BG goes to Kindermusik, people thought BG learns her ABCs, numbers, shapes, colors and animals from there. I don’t want parents reading this blog to be misguided.

Kindermusik has taught BG
- how to sing along
- that she’s free to be expressive through dancing, tapping or running
- body parts
- things and action words around the house especially the kitchen.

You see, since BG has no regular playmates, we thought Kindermusik is a good venue to interact with other kids. We’re quite satisfied with it.

But the ABCs, numbers, shapes, colors and animals she learned from
- Sesame Street Learning About Letters DVD
- Barney Colors Make Me Happy DVD
- Barney Let’s Play School VCD
- Barney Picture Alphabet Chart
- Sesame Street Fun With Colors Poster
- Sesame Street Fun With Shapes Poster
- Alphabet (refrigerator) magnets
- Brainy Baby (ABC’s, 123′s and animals) books

For the next semester, hubby and I are still undecided whether to continue with Kindermusik or enrol BG to a swimming class instead. Or perhaps another playschool like Gymboree which is nearer to our place. :)
